Which incidents must be reported to CQC?Under Regulation 18 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, care homes must notify CQC of certain notifiable incidents including unexpected or unexplained deaths, serious injuries, abuse or allegations of abuse, and events that prevent or threaten to prevent the registered person from carrying on the regulated activity safely. The toolkit includes a CQC notification checklist to help you determine your obligations.

What is RIDDOR and when does it apply?RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013) requires employers to report certain workplace accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous occurrences to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). In care homes, this includes staff injuries resulting in over-7-day absence, specified injuries (fractures, amputations, loss of sight), and dangerous occurrences. The toolkit includes a RIDDOR checklist to help you identify reportable events.
